Abstract
When the digital scanning system was first introduced in dentistry, its usage mainly involved three-dimensional scanning of definitive cast from conventional impression. As the improvement in digital system allowed direct scanning of the patient dentition, more intraoral scanners became available for chairside use. In this paper, we reported a case of implant placement in a patient using a surgical guide after uprighting the molars located posterior to the missing right mandibular second premolar. After bonding of space maintainer, digital impression was taken with an intraoral scanner for the fabrication of prosthesis. The digital impression method did not require the removal of space maintainer, and the computer-aided design/computer-aided manufacturing (CAD/CAM) technology resulted in excellent marginal and internal fit of the fixed prosthesis.
